Ugly officiating on both sides of the ball couldn’t stop the Minnesota Vikings from ending their four game losing streak, topping the Arizona Cardinals.

32. Final. 30. 60. 24

The Minnesota Vikings needed all phases to come together to find their groove once again, and three out of those four phases produced points. Their task was doing so at U.S. Bank Stadium in Week 11 against the Arizona Cardinals. It was also a task they ultimately succeeded in completing.  Sam Bradford struck early to Adam Thielen, Minnesota’s defense finally found a home on opposing quarterbacks, and their new kicker actually made kicks.

Perhaps the biggest plays of the day were the 104-yard kickoff return from Cordarrelle Patterson and a 101-yard interception return for a touchdown from Xavier Rhodes. This cornered Vikings team came out and attacked the Cardinals.

Carson Palmer was hit on over half of his drop backs. Moreover, Minnesota’s corners for the most part neutralized the big plays from Arizona, though David Johnson still galloped his way to another incredible day.

This game was a pivotal one for both teams. Arizona is suddenly watching a Seattle Seahawks team create separation in the NFC West, while Minnesota and Detroit are neck and neck for the division lead in the NFC North.

Three Stars

Xavier Rhodes, Vikings (3 Tackles, 2 Int, 1 TD) – The fourth-year corner is having a career year, and padded it with a career day against Arizona. This marks the first game of Rhodes’ career having a multi-interception day and it’s also the first time he’s found pay dirt. Minnesota may want to pay the man when everything is all said and done this season.

Cordarrelle Patterson, Vikings (4 receptions, 53 yards, 104-yard kickoff return) – Patterson is another four-year player who continues to get better each game. Now finding his own place in the Vikings offense, Patterson is contributing now more than he ever has. A gunner on special teams, a now reliable receiver, while always being a dangerous kicker returner, “Flash” changed the tides with a touchdown to open the second half. Minnesota never looked back.

David Johnson, Cardinals (29 Touches, 160 yards, 2 TDs) – Despite the loss, David Johnson continues to show everyone that he may just be the best overall running back in the league. Arizona did it’s best to get their play-maker the ball to the tune of 29 touches overall, but just couldn’t continue to pound it out being down double-digit points. Whether winning or losing, David Johnson always seems to find a way to impact ball games.
