Dolphins at Jets: Preview, Prediction, Odds
Miami Dolphins vs. New York Jets
The New York Jets look to play spoiler as the Miami Dolphins head to MetLife Stadium to complete the season series between these two teams. Last week, Bryce Petty earned his first win as an NFL starter after topping the 49ers in overtime. The Dolphins kept themselves in the thick of the AFC Wild Card race after beating the reeling Cardinals last week. At 8-5, Miami needs this victory over New York to keep pace.
Of course, the Dolphins limp into this game without starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill at the helm, following him suffering an ACL and MCL sprain last week against the Cards. That’s a big blow for Miami, especially as they look to remain playoff relevant.
Last time these two teams met, Miami was led by Jay Ajayi‘s 111 yard performance on their way to a 27-23 victory over New York. This time it’s a reunion of sorts with Matt Moore getting the start at quarterback. Moore was Todd Bowles‘ quarterback when he was the interim head coach with Miami in 2011.
Here are the keys to victory for each team.

Keys To Victory
For the Jets, they have to start fast. If they had played a team that was stronger than the 49ers, they would have lost last week. Carlos Hyde ran wild on the New York defense and San Francisco was ahead 14-0 before anyone blinked their eyes. The defense rallied to keep the team in the game, but they have to start faster—and that goes for the offense as well.
Petty also needs to take steps forward if New York is going to win a second-straight game. He got better as last week’s game went along, but the opening play of the game reminded fans of Geno Smith. Petty also must start to develop that inner clock. He is going through what all young quarterbacks go through, which is not knowing how long to hold the football. He must start improving their now, before it becomes full-fledged GSS (Geno Smith Syndrome).
Miami must attack the Jets. I’ve said it all season long, but New York’s defense has fallen apart when attacked. They can’t stop the downfield passing game and fast running backs have given them a hard time. Get after them. On defense, get after Petty and make him beat you. Make him make decisions that he is not yet comfortable with.

Prediction
New York will play well here, so I don’t see a blow out. The Jets are at home and it won’t exactly be that Miami weather they are used to. However, Jay Ajayi will have another big game and Moore will beat New York at least one time down field for a big score. Miami needs this one, and they go out and get it.
