Miami Dolphins: Who is Rashawn Scott?
Rashawn Scott has been a hot name around the Miami Dolphins of late, but who is the former undrafted free agent receiver?
Following the 2016 NFL Draft, Rashawn Scott was scooped up as an undrafted free agent by the Miami Dolphins. The former Miami Hurricanes’ wide receiver was supremely talented, but also very raw. Injury concerns and some issues with drops caused him to fall out of the draft.
However, he has immensely impressed coaches since joining the Phins and now there are even talks he could steal Leonte Caroo’s roster spot, who they gave up multiple high-value draft picks to acquire in the same draft Scott managed to slip through without having his name called.
Last season, Scott was active for just two games and didn’t catch a single pass. Nevertheless, that hasn’t stopped his stock from climbing all offseason. The 25-year old has solid size at 6-2 and 203 pounds. In 2015 he was Miami’s best receiver in college.

Though he dealt with the aforementioned injury woes, he finished 2015 with 52 receptions for 695 yards and five touchdowns. When fully healthy, he caught 34 passes in his first six games of the season and finished nicely, snatching 12 balls in his final two games in college.
We have seen former Hurricane receivers like Allen Hurns and Travis Benjamin get to the NFL and thrive seemingly out of nowhere. Scott is every bit as good as those two, if not better based on their college career and skill set. Again, it’s injuries that scared teams off of him in the draft. He missed all of 2011 and 2014, and was banged up in 2015. Otherwise this guy is putting on an NFL team’s hat on Day 2 of the draft.
Aside from the occasional drop, he checks all the boxes to be an NFL wideout. Physicality is not a concern for Scott. He’ll over-match physical defensive backs off the line or downfield. There is no doubt he has both the size and speed to be an impact player in the pros. He’s a former track star with outstanding explosion and is an impressive route runner. His ability to make smooth cuts at full speed is something scouts have marveled at.
This guy is the real deal and all signs point to him not only making the Dolphins’ squad this year, but lining up as the fourth receiver. Remember this name as we head into training camp and then the preseason. He, more than anybody else, is a player to watch on offense.

Miami is an NFL superstar factory and Dolphins may have found a gem here. He’ll be an impact player sooner rather than later if he can stay off the injury report.
