Green Bay Packers: Coach Brett Favre — Let’s just pretend.
By Hunter Noll
With Brett Favre pondering his coaching prospects, what if the Green Bay Packers had him coaching and guiding Aaron Rodgers?
The end of the Brett Favre era with the Green Bay Packers was a little rocky. He retired, then wanted to come back. This led to confusion and problems. Aaron Rodgers was all set to take over, for example. Out of this, there were plenty of wild rumors. There were stories that the Packers didn’t want Favre, that he felt betrayed that they already replaced him, and so on.

Through all that though, the two seem to be on perfectly good terms. In fact, Brett Favre recently stated that he’d be interested in coaching, and wouldn’t be upset with a Packers reunion. Due to that, my mind started racing.
What if Favre was a coach for the Packers? How would that affect Rodgers career? Would it have already done something?
What everyone needs to remember is Favre already had Rodgers under his wing for a few seasons. For the first three years of Rodgers’ career, he served as Favre’s backup. In that time, there’s plenty to suggest they didn’t like each other. Nevertheless, if you don’t think Rodgers learned a thing or two from Favre, you’re insane.

With that time they spent together in mind, Rodgers’ career path probably wouldn’t be much different if Favre was there to teach him after he retired. Especially when you consider he ended up playing three more seasons in the NFL after his tenure in Green Bay.
By that time, Rodgers and the Packers had already won a Super Bowl. Favre as a coach could help Rodgers in the future, though. I know what you’re thinking. Yes, Rodgers is one of the greatest quarterbacks of all-time, what could anyone teach him?
Aging gracefully. Sure, Rodgers has done a fantastic job at it so far, and Favre actually had some bad years near the end of his career. Favre’s been through it, though. He knows what to watch out for, how to handle situations, and so on. Oh, and in his age 40 season, Favre threw 33 touchdowns compared to just seven interceptions.

Aaron Rodgers has had a great career. Brett Favre’s influence as a coach might not have changed his career path, but there’s still plenty of that career left — and who knows how Favre could affect that. .
