Due to injury or their own talents, these following five players will earn at least one start for the Dallas Cowboys during the 2017 NFL season.

The Dallas Cowboys have to be feeling good heading into the 2017 season. They’re coming off an outstanding 2016 campaign that saw them finish 13-3 before an unfortunate exit in the Divisional Round of the playoffs.

Realistically, though, I could see this team going even further in 2017. The offense is looking as explosive as ever, having made some slight improvements this offseason. The defense has some holes, but you can could still make a case that they’re at least similar in terms of talent from a season ago.

What I like about this roster, though, is the amount of playmakers it has further down the depth chart. The starting bunch is obviously strong, but it’s the backups who can make or break a season. When a starter goes down, can the next guy up get the job done? It’s an important (and often) overlooked part of putting together a championship roster.

Luckily, the Cowboys have some exciting talent not currently penciled in as starters. That, however, doesn’t mean they won’t be starting at some point this year. That’s why we’re here today — to highlight a few surprise starters who could emerge for Dallas in 2017.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at five Cowboys who could surprisingly earn some starts this season. For one reason or another, they’ve put at least a start or two under their belts before the 2017 campaign is in the rear-view mirror.
