Dallas Cowboys: Team doesn’t want DeAngelo Williams either

BALTIMORE, MD - DECEMBER 27: DeAngelo Williams

Running back DeAngelo Williams says he would never play for the Cowboys, but that’s perfectly fine — there’s no way the team would want him anyway

If a stint as a pro wrestler doesn’t get you enough attention, maybe poking fun at the most popular team in the NFL will? Former Carolina Panthers and Pittsburgh Steelers running back DeAngelo Williams did just that when he started talking about the Dallas Cowboys fresh off his attempt to become a pro wrestler.

Williams tried his hand at wresting in Orlando at Impact Wrestling’s Slammiversary (no really, that’s what it’s called) as he tried to fill his offseason in which he has yet to find an NFL suitor. In an attempt to make himself even less appealing to the team’s that haven’t called him yet, Williams decided it was a good idea to cross four names off the list — the Cleveland Browns, Jacksonville Jaguars, Carolina Panthers and Dallas Cowboys, according to ESPN.

Jacksonville and Cleveland he says are all about wanting to be in a culture of winning, but Carolina was personal. Williams claimed the Panthers mishandled him by releasing him in 2015, but ignored the fact that he was a bust after signing a five-year ,$43 million extension in 2010. Not only did he fail to ever hit 1,000 yards during that span, but he was frequently injured and couldn’t be relied upon.

Now, after playing just nine games in 2016, the 34-year old Williams is jobless and picking on the Cowboys. While he says his fandom of the San Francisco 49ers is to blame, he went for the jugular in explaining why he wouldn’t play in Big D.

Here’s the full quote from Williams, via ESPN:

"“The Cowboys, they win. They just don’t ever show up during the playoffs. They always disappear in the playoffs. I’ve got a great depiction of the Cowboys’ fan base. During the regular season last year, they were on cloud nine. You couldn’t tell them anything because they were going to win the ‘ship — that’s all they said. Fans just got extremely super annoying. Then, the minute they lose, they either got cheated, somebody was hurt — the excuses start flowing. It’s just amazing to me. That fan base just in general can’t handle defeat. Still, to this day, they say that the Dez Bryant catch against the Green Bay Packers was a catch!”"

Well, DeAngelo Williams can rest easy. There’s no way the Dallas Cowboys will be calling him. Not only is he past his prime, but their options now are really far superior.

Of course, most would think of 2016 NFL rushing leader Ezekiel Elliott, but he’s not the only reason Dallas would pass. Behind him, they have Darren McFadden and Alfred Morris. McFadden has been a valuable player for Dallas and in his career has as many 1,000-yard rushing seasons as Williams (two). Morris has had three in his career, and both McFadden (2015) and Morris (2014) saw their last 1,000-yard season much more recently than Williams (2009).

So Williams can keep talking about Dallas and the fans. The Cowboys front office, however, won’t be talking about him anytime soon — and that has nothing to do with his proclamation he would never play for them.
