New Orleans Saints: Brandon Coleman is a training camp stud
The New Orleans Saints are still relatively early into training camp, but Brandon Coleman is making sure everyone knows his name.
With training camp officially underway, the New Orleans Saints have a lot of prospects and one name keeps popping up. Brandon Coleman, a former undrafted wide receiver is easily the most talked-about player right now. Everyone attending training camp can’t stop talking about him and for good reason.
Coleman is an underrated name on the Saints roster. He was an undrafted free agent in 2014 and has been overshadowed, first by Brandin Cooks and then by Michael Thomas. But it looks like it’s finally his time. Looking back at last season, Coleman did manage to haul in three touchdowns, but managed only 281 yards on 26 receptions.
2017 could be the year for Coleman, especially with the reports coming out of camp. Almost every single day so far, Coleman has been mentioned. One of his more impressive plays came on July 31, per The New Orleans Advocate:
"WR Brandon Coleman has been a regular in this spot. He laid a nice stiff arm on Vonn Bell after catching a crossing route and took off up the sideline for a score. It was a two-hand touch period, so he was ruled down, but it looked like a touchdown from our vantage point."
As amazing as it sounds, it’s even better to watch. NOLA.com was there and posted the footage:
Coleman’s quick start at training camp is a good sign. The Saints definitely aren’t lacking at receiver, but Coleman is on the verge of a breakout season at this rate. At 6-6, he’s a big guy and pairing him with Thomas could be huge.

This year, Coleman needs to use his height to his advantage and overpower the smaller defensive players and win the battle. So far, it looks like Coleman is achieving it in training camp. The former UDFA knows how important this year is too. When he talked to the media (via NOLA.com), he was open about his intentions:
"“It’s time. It’s my fourth training camp here, and the time is now. There’s no tomorrow. I’m starting to realize that now.”"
He’s exactly right too because you never know in the NFL. One day you have a job and the next, you don’t.
With such a huge showing at training camp though, a roster spot seems likely. Coleman has made some mistakes in the past, but he’s moving forward. Even Drew Brees is riding the Coleman train, saying he put “trust” in the “big target”. Pretty high praise coming from one of the best quarterbacks of our generation.

Training camp just started, but Coleman is leaps and bounds better than he was before. He could become a valuable option for Brees this season and a breakout stud. Regardless, training camp is Brandon Coleman’s show for now.
