New Orleans Saints: Do they truly have the best receiving corps?
During training camp, Willie Snead shared his thoughts on the New Orleans Saints wide receiver corps as the best in the NFL, but how true is that?
The New Orleans Saints have one of the best offenses in the league. That’s mostly due to Drew Brees’ tremendous talent, but also due to their wide receivers. No one knows this more than Willie Snead.
Snead paid the ultimate compliment to himself and the team by saying (per NFL.com):
"“I feel like we have the best receiving corps in the league, so we’re just going to make [our cornerbacks] better. And by the time game-time comes, they should be ready to go”"
While it was a subtle dig at the defense, it’s not hard to imagine. The Saints have a gaggle of great receivers for Brees to toss to. Obviously, you have to tip your hat to Brees because he makes them great. Brees has a cannon for an arm, impeccable accuracy and veteran knowledge of the game.
Brees is part of the reason why the receiving corps is so good. Brees doesn’t get all the credit, though, as they can make big plays on their own. Looking back at last season, Michael Thomas was a rookie, but managed to rack up over 1,000 receiving yards and nine touchdowns, the most on the team. Thomas is poised to break out even further this year, too.

Obviously, we have to talk about Brandin Cooks. Cooks was a stud in his time with the Saints and watching him play with Brees was electric. While no longer with the team, Cooks was a huge part of the offense and a touchdown machine.
Before Thomas, Cooks was paired with Snead and the two lit the field up. Snead finished last season with four touchdowns, but the third most receiving yards. Not to mention, Snead did play quarterback in trick-play scenarios and threw a touchdown. As multi-talented as the guy is, it’s hard not to brag just a little bit.
2017 looks a little different, though. Cooks is out, but Ted Ginn Jr. is in. Ginn brings some veteran experience and speed. Ginn is another multi-talented guy who can play wide receiver, but also punt returner and has a tendency for making big plays when needed.
Let’s also not forget Brandon Coleman. Coleman has been making big plays and showing his worth to the Saints during training camp. Even though it’s only training camp, it’s a good testament to how Coleman could perform in the regular season. He’ll have to climb up the depth chart, but he’s just a backup right now and he’s making plays.
Next: One potential Hall of Fame candidate from each NFL team
The Saints have one of the most complete receiving corps in the NFL. I’m sure you can make arguments for other teams, but I agree with Snead. The Saints have the best receiving corp in the NFL right now. They’re such an underrated group and have made strides to become so highly regarded. From fantasy to real life, you can never go wrong betting on the Saints wide receivers.
