Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Rookie Chris Godwin is a secret weapon
Rookie wide receiver Chris Godwin is turning heads early in Tampa Bay Buccaneers training camp.
Anyone who follows college football knows that former Penn State wide receiver Chris Godwin has talent. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers knew as much when drafting the explosive wideout.
Now, it appears that people are beginning to confirm this as he has had a solid training camp to this point. Head coach Dirk Koetter gave the rookie high praise in a press conference earlier this week, per Bucs Wire:
"“Outstanding,” Koetter said of Godwin’s performance throughout camp. “He is doing a great job, the guy looks like a vet out there. Does not play like a rookie, does not act like a rookie. Very mature and serious about his business, serious about football. Doing a really nice job out there.”"

Currently, Godwin is slotted in the No. 2 spot behind Mike Evans. Anytime you are behind Mike Evans on a depth chart, chances are you probably won’t start at the position. However, it would not be outlandish to think that Godwin will get some playing time this season. In essence, he could be a “secret weapon” for the Bucs offense.
He is an athletic freak. Measuring in at 6-1, 209 pounds, Godwin is not exactly your stereotypical red zone threat. However, give him open field and you will regret it. Not the fastest runner, he uses the combination of his quick feet and strength to get the extra yards he needs.
He plays the wide receiver position physically, having the ability to put his head down and run over a defender if need be. Also noteworthy, Godwin is not afraid to get physical with defensive backs when battling for a deep ball, something that may endear him to Bucs fans.
Lately when discussing the options for Tampa Bay at wide receiver, the conversations shift to either Evans, DeSean Jackson or both the majority of the time. Godwin deserves to be in that conversation as well.

He has the explosiveness and talent to be a capable wide receiver in the NFL. Let’s face it, the Buccaneers are crowded with big-time talent at the position. Because of this and due to the fact that he flies under the radar, he is (at the moment) a secret weapon.
