The 2016 NFL Champion New England Patriots will get their preseason kicked off on Thursday Aug. 10, as they host the new-look Jacksonville Jaguars. The two teams are coming from different ends of the spectrum as the Pats not only won the big game, but went an impressive 14-2 during the regular season. Jacksonville not only missed the post season again, but also finished just 3-13 on the year.

Head coach Gus Bradley lost his job in the process and was replaced with Doug Marrone. The new leader on the sidelines will have some weapons at his disposal after they drafted running back Leonard Fournette and signed cornerback A.J. Bouye, defensive end Calais Campbell and safety Barry Church. Thursday will be the first chance to see how the new pieces fit together.

Speaking of new pieces, the Patriots were uncharacteristically active in the offseason. Usually the team to send player away, New England acquired wide receiver Brandin Cooks and defensive end Kony Ealy. Despite sending away their first and second round picks in those trades, they still wound up with some quality rookies as well in defensive end Derek Rivers and offensive tackle Antonio Garcia.

Expect to see plenty of those rookies for New England, but hardly any of their star players like quarterback Tom Brady, tight end Rob Gronkowski or wide receiver Julian Edelman. Those guys know the score and don’t need much work to get ready.

Jacksonville on the other hand may need to get some of their potential stars some playing time as they learn to gel with one another and their new coach.
