The third week of the NFL preseason is usually the easiest to watch. What makes it more exciting than the others is that teams often use this game as the dress rehearsal for the regular season. Doing so allows them to get the best look they can at their presumed starters, while still giving the majority of them the following week off to rest up before kicking off the new football year.
For the New England Patriots it may not be as serious to get all their starters on the field as it is for most teams when they head to Michigan to play the Detroit Lions on Friday. The defending world champs know what they have in seasoned veterans like quarterback Tom Brady, receiver Julian Edelman and tight end Rob Gronkowski.
Defensively they’re pretty set too with guys like cornerback Stephon Gilmore and linebacker Dont’a Hightower well aware of their jobs. Nevertheless, look for as many of the key players as possible to be on the field for a few drives at the very least for the Pats.

The Detroit Lions may not be as set. They have some youth at key positions like linebacker with Jarrad Davis and Teez Tabor — their two rookies from Florida. Offensively they just hope to stay healthy as running back Ameer Abdullah is trying to put together a big year after missing almost all of 2016.
