Dallas Cowboys Preseason: 3 Things we learned vs Raiders
By Randy Gurzi
3. Maybe Kellen Moore is done for
Quite possibly the best sight of the entire Preseason Week 3 matchup against Oakland was what Dallas did when starting quarterback Dak Prescott left the field. After the teams went to the locker room for the half the Cowboys went with their second team and quarterback Kellen Moore was not part of that group. After stinking it up over and over in the preseason the coaches may have finally realized the last remaining lefty quarterback in the NFL simply isn’t a good football player.

While they keep saying he’s great in the meeting rooms, that’s not a reason to have a spot on the 53-man roster. Maybe it’s needed for a coaching career, but Sunday matters way too much on a limited roster and Moore cannot help Dallas when the pads come on.
As bad as he’s been, he isn’t the only reason he has to be cut. Undrafted rookie quarterback Cooper Rush is the second reason. He’s looked amazing in the role of the No. 3 guy and now he got some snaps against better competition while playing to open the second half. As fate would have it, Rush and the Boys had a three-and-out which may have had head coach Jason Garrett and offensive coordinator (and Kellen Moore fan boy) Scott Linehan feeling justified in clinging to Moore for so long.
Then Rush settled down. He went an unreal 12-of-13 and had a team high 115 yards passing. Rush added two touchdowns and a 13-yard run. Most importantly, he still has not thrown an interception in the preseason. His night finished with what proved to be a game-winning 44-yard touchdown pass to rookie receiver Lance Lenoir.
Only then did they turn to Moore to try and milk the clock with just four minutes to play. He went 2-of-4 and led them on a six-play drive that covered 18 yards and they punted. Moore should be done, and just might finally be if Saturday was any indication.
