Preseason Week 3 is the unofficial end of the NFL preseason, so where do the Miami Dolphins stand currently?
With just one seemingly meaningless game left his preseason, most Miami Dolphins fans are looking well past this game and focusing on Week 1 of the NFL season. However, there are still some storylines to pay attention to leading into the regular season kickoff.
These are the top stories to watch.
53-Man Roster Cuts
The Dolphins still have to cut their roster down to 53 players. There are quite a few intriguing moves that can still be made. The team must decide if they want to keep a third quarterback on the roster and there will be tough decisions to be made at wide receiver.

For the most part you can figure out who’s going to make the squad, but there is usually a surprise or two. Jakeem Grant and Rashawn Scott are two players I’ll be watching closely.
Depth Charts
Miami still has a surprising amount of uncommitted positions on their depth chart. The left guard position is very much up in the air still. Alterraun Verner has made a late push for Byron Maxwell’s starting cornerback job after being signed off the street. The defensive tackle job next to Ndamukong Suh is still up for grabs as well. Rookie Davon Godchaux has outperformed Jordan Phillips in training camp, but Phillips stepped up in the third preseason game, so that’s something to watch as well.
Jarvis Landry
Juice has been at the center of rumors all week and his expiring contract is going to be a story all season. He has been said to be on the trade block which was dismissed by head coach Adam Gase and the whole situation has cast a bit of shadow over the lead up to the season.
Nonetheless, this is a non-story. The team isn’t trading him and he’s not going to hold out. So let’s just worry about this next offseason when the team will likely franchise tag him and try to work out a deal.

Rey Maualuga
The Dolphins have quite the conundrum at middle linebacker. They have signed a starter that is yet to practice with the team in Maualuga and there is a strong chance he’s not ready for Week 1. He’s still working his way into football shape and it will be interesting to see how that plays out over the next two weeks.
