Jacksonville Jaguars: 3 Takeaways from Week 1 vs Texans
By Ryan Disdier
2. Leonard Fournette looks like he belongs
Although his yards per carry may not impress, Fournette did rush for 100 yards in his debut game. The rookie out of LSU also carried the ball 26 times, caught three passes for 24 yards and scored a rushing touchdown.
More so, however, Fournette looked like he belonged on an NFL field. He ran hard and played with attitude, which is good for an offense in need of an identity.
Fournette displayed some bulldozing runs, bowling over Texans in the process. It’s also important to note Houston’s defense is a stingy one, so Fournette’s numbers are nothing to sneeze at. Marrone called upon Fournette on a crucial fourth down. In a big moment, Fournette punched the ball into the end zone.
Moving forward, I would expect the Jaguars to implement a strategy similar to the one they utilized against the Texans. He displayed in his first game he has the ability to handle a good amount of carries, even as a rookie.
There’s really not too much to say about Fournette’s debut. He was good, not great, and he figures to have a lot of carries as a rookie. Once he gets more comfortable playing at an NFL-level, he should be able to do special things.
