Here is a breakdown of Sunday’s matchup between the New York Jets and the Oakland Raiders, score prediction, and betting odds.

The New York Jets seem to be in for some trouble as they look to avoid going 0-2 against the high-scoring Oakland Raiders offense. The Jets are coming off of a loss to the Buffalo Bills in Week 1, in which they struggled on both sides of the ball. The Raiders dominated a tough game on the road in Week 1 against the Tennesee Titans and look to continue the trend as they return to the Coliseum for their home opener on the 2017 NFL season.

The Jets are heavy underdogs going into Week 2, but that didn’t mean anything last week. In Week 1, five teams considered underdogs ended up winning their game. The Raiders will continue trying to prove critics wrong, while the Jets will just be trying to get their first win.

Let’s dive into the keys to victory in this matchup.

Keys to Victory

The Jets will need to do a lot differently if they hope to have a chance winning this game. In Week 1, the Jets allowed the Bills to rush for 190 yards and a touchdown. If they cannot find a way to stop the run, Raiders running back Marshawn Lynch will punish the defense throughout the game.

Rookie safeties Jamal Adams and Marcus Maye will also need to have great games in the Jets hope to limit the Raiders offense. Adams and Maye might have been the only silver lining in their Week 1 loss, at least according to head coach Todd Bowles. However, the Raiders passing attack is much better than the Bills and the Jets cornerbacks won’t be able to cover Oakland’s receivers without safety help.

The Jets offense will also need to step up in order to keep pace with the Raiders scoring. In Week 1, the Jets only scored 12 points against the Bills. Based on how bad the Jets defense looked in their opening game, they will need to score early and often in they want to keep up with the Raiders. Wide receiver Jermaine Kearse looked good, catching seven passes for 59 yards, while only playing for the team for less than two weeks. As Kearse continues to learn the Jets offense, he could be the best scoring threat on the team.

The Raiders should just try to keep up their momentum from Week 1. Oakland simply looked great in every aspect of the game. The Oakland offense was incredibly balanced, gaining over 100 yards on the ground and 250 passing yards. Even undrafted kicker Giorgio Tavecchio went 4-of-4 for field goals and 2-of-2 for extra points.

Oakland’s defense, specifically the secondary, struggled throughout last season and this preseason but held up surprisingly well against the Marcus Mariota and the Titans. Kearse is the only real threat in the Jets passing attack, so if the Raiders secondary can limit him in the game it is hard to see how the Jets will score.

Score Prediction

Based on their Week 1 performances, it is hard to imagine any scenario in which the Jets win this game on the road. The Raiders looked so much better than expected, especially defensively. The Jets could easily finish this season with the worst record in the NFL, which might be what fans want at this point (Sam Darnold, anyone?). Barring a shocking upset, the Raiders should cruise to an easy victory in Week 2.

Final Score: Oakland Raiders: 31, New York Jets: 9
