Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford has put up good numbers in fantasy football thus far, but should you start him in Week 3 vs. Falcons?
Fantasy football is officially on it’s way! It’s Week 3, and the competition is stiff. There are no more excuses from here on out. If you bombed Week 1 and 2, here is where you put yourself back in the competition.
If you have a quarterback like Russell Wilson, you’re in need of a refresh. Drafting Wilson seemed like a steal, but his 2017 fantasy football performance thus far has suggested otherwise. He earned a little over seven points in Week 1 and only doubled that in Week 2 against a paltry 49ers team.
That’s where Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford can step in. He’s only owned in about 85-90 percent of leagues. So if your lucky, he may still be available in your league (this is where you pause and check).

Stafford has been hot to start the year. He has six touchdowns over his first two games. In Week 1 he earned over 35 fantasy points. Last week, he earned a little under 20 points, but that also came against a Giants defense projected as one of the best in the league.
The Lions offensive line has been good despite dealing with injuries, which only helps highlight Stafford’s skills and talents. Offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter’s scheme is working in Stafford’s favor. He has a great connection with his receivers. As an aside, it may be in your best interest to start Eric Ebron this week, as he was one of Stafford’s favorite targets last week .
In Week 3, the Lions take on the Atlanta Falcons. Last season, the Falcons defense was the fifth worst in the league. This season, the Falcons have surrendered the seventh most passing yards. Last week, Aaron Rodgers earned over 20 fantasy points against the Falcons, even in a losing effort for the Packers.

Although some improvements have been happening on the Falcons defense, they won’t be enough to stop the Lions offense in Detroit. Stafford is a must start in all leagues as he has a nice matchup and the game situation could lead to a shootout. That’s money for a quarterback and fantasy.
