Chicago Bears: 3 Takeaways vs. Packers in Week 4
2. Turning the ball over, committing stupid penalties is frustrating
Once again, the Bears shot themselves in the foot with turnovers and stupid penalties. Glennon committed four turnovers, two interceptions and two fumbles lost. He fumbled on the first play from scrimmage. The Packers recovered on the Bears’ 3-yard line. You know what happens when you give Rodgers that short of a field — automatic touchdown.
Glennon’s second fumbled occurred as the offense actually moved. The Bears were at the Packers’ 33-yard line. He again gave the ball to the Packers, ending a promising drive.

With about seven minutes left in the second quarter, Glennon dropped back and threw deep. He completed the pass, but to Ha Ha Clinton-Dix. Once again, Rodgers and the Packers converted the turnover into a touchdown.
The stupid penalties also continued. After committing 18 penalties in the past two games, the Bears committed eight more in Green Bay. It’s when the penalties occur that really hurt the team.
The Bears had a good drive going when the storm hit. Cohen had a 15-yard run to the Packers’ 22 that had to be brought back because of a Josh Sitton holding penalty. Later on, Charles Leno Jr. committed a false start. Instead of being deep in Packer territory, the offense was back on their side of the field and eventually punted the ball.
After Connor Barth missed a 47-yard field goal attempt on the Bears’ first drive in the third quarter, the Packers took over. They marched 63 yards on 13 plays over 7:43. They had six first downs on the drive. Of those, three of them were because of Bears penalties.
The most egregious one came on a helmet-to-helmet hit by Danny Trevathan on Davante Adams. It was a third-and-goal from the 16-yard line. The play would’ve forced a field goal, but the personal foul put the ball on the Bears’ 4-yard line. Of course, that resulted in another easy touchdown for Rodgers.
It seems we keep talking about the stupid penalties week after week. They say they’ll clean it up, yet it continually happens. It doesn’t matter who plays quarterback, if these dumb penalties continue to happen the Bears continue to lose.
