4. Alvin Kamara, Saints

Last week when talking about waiver wire pickups, I mentioned New Orleans Saints rookie running back Alvin Kamara as a viable option to stash for a bit as he seems likely to get more and more work as the year goes on.

As it turns out, we might not have to wait that long for that to happen. In London for the Saints game against the Miami Dolphins in Week 4, Kamara saw by far the most work of his young career and made the most of it.

Kamara carried the ball just five times on the day (still a career-high to this point), but did amass 25 yards on those carries for a solid per-touch average. However, Drew Brees targeted him often in the passing game, and the rookie finished with 10 receptions for 71 yards and a receiving touchdown. In PPR scoring, Kamara finished with 25 points, making him the sixth-ranked running back for Week 4.

With Mark Ingram and Adrian Peterson largely looking ineffective, it’s not a mistake that the Saints offense has looked better with Kamara getting more involved. For my money, I’d say he’s on track to take over as the “lead” back in that three-man rotation. Thus, he could be a high-quality replacement for the injured Vikings rookie.
