Fantasy Football 2017: What’s the best matchup in Week 5?
By Dan Salem
Flashy quarterback play is fun, but dominating running is better. What’s the best Fantasy Football matchup of NFL Week 5? This is your Game of the Week!
Each Sunday during the NFL season, certain games stand out. These are not necessarily the games with the most on the line or with the most impact on the standings. Instead, these contests hold the most star power and fantasy football implications.
NFL Debate: Can Adam Gase survive a lost season in Miami?
These are the games every fan needs to watch, from the die hard to the guy pressured into joining a fantasy league with work associates. This is the fantasy football game of the week for NFL Week 5.
Two brothers from New York, Dan Salem and Todd Salem, debate Fantasy Football in today’s NFL Sports Debate.
Fantasy Football Week 5
Through a quarter of the NFL regular season, nothing makes sense. The Bills, Lions, Rams, and Jaguars are in first place. To make matters worse, bye weeks start in full this week, limiting our game options. Out of commission are four exciting squads: Atlanta, Denver, Washington, and New Orleans.
Game of the Week
Todd Salem: In terms of excitement for Week 5, the Giants hosting the Chargers has some major cache. Both these teams are 0-4. As the old saying goes, something’s gotta give! Eli Manning versus Philip Rivers. Odell Beckham and Keenan Allen. This is really pretty interesting, though it can’t possibly be our best match.
There are a ton of crappy games this week. The late afternoon and Sunday night time slots are the only reprieve. We have three real contenders for fantasy game of the week: Seattle at the Rams, Green Bay at Dallas, and Kansas City at Houston.
It’s time to believe in everything the Rams are doing on offense, especially if they put up another outstanding performance against the Seattle defense. The Seahawks, meanwhile, turned their season around against the universal salve, the Indianapolis Colts. Seattle is low on game-changing skill players though. It has no running game and too much weight resting on Russell Wilson.

I am similarly nervous about Dallas’ upside right now. That means my game of the week is the Kansas City Chiefs vs. the Houston Texans.
The Chiefs are involved again because they keep clowning people. Kareem Hunt went for another 100 yards against a quality Washington defense in Week 4. He is the best player in fantasy by a mile. Though Tyreek Hill was quiet, Travis Kelce was not. This trio is the best in the business right now, accompanied by the NFL’s leader in quarterback rating, Alex Smith.
On the opposite side, it’s too soon to anoint Deshaun Watson as a star, but it’s not too soon to use him weekly in fantasy lineups. That is especially true with how poor some of our veterans have been (Rivers, Roethlisberger, Manning, Flacco etc. It’s ugly out there, folks). Lamar Miller and DeAndre Hopkins complete the scary trio for the Texans, along with a defense that can change games.
Dan Salem: I feel like there is Kansas City and everyone else thus far this season. Not only are the Chiefs the lone undefeated football team, but they have been the most consistent Fantasy Football team as well. Their players perform and the games have been fun! We keep naming them as the “Game of the Week” and I feel no shame in doing so. Yet for Week 5 of the season, I must digress.
There’s little doubt in my mind that Chiefs vs. Texans is likely the best fantasy football game in terms of actual production and fantasy points. Watson proved himself a stud quarterback last week, even if he’s unlikely to have a repeat performance. However, the game of the week must also be a game that I’m excited to watch and I do not want to watch the Texans. The team is still developing its identity and has no cache right now. They are in a muddled division as well, making me question their ability to even keep up with Kansas City. This leaves one other contest as a better fantasy football option in Week 5.
The game of the week belongs to the Green Bay Packers vs. Dallas Cowboys. I don’t trust either team’s defense, meaning lots of offense in this game. The excitement level is very high, because these are historic franchises with top notch quarterbacks, surrounded by other stud offensive weapons.

Aaron Rodgers is always fun to watch, and Dak Prescott is entering such territory. That combo trumps Watson and Alex Smith. NFC supremacy is also on the line, current standings aside. There’s no better game this week than Cowboys versus Packers. We can anoint the Chiefs again in Week 6 if need be.
