Arizona Cardinals vs. Philadelphia Eagles

It’s Week 5 and the Philadelphia Eagles are leading the NFC East. That’s not what many predicted coming into the year, but it’s the reality. Now they’ll head back home on Sunday as they welcome an Arizona Cardinals team that has been disappointing, but has managed to claw out two wins in their last pair of games.

This Philadelphia team has seen Carson Wentz really coming into his own after his promising rookie campaign. Now the question becomes if he can do that with consistency throughout the season. That’ll be tested with a talented Arizona secondary.

As for the Cardinals, they also need consistency, but really they need it from everyone. From Tyrann Mathieu to Larry Fitzgerald, this is a team that has been able to just put it together and keep rolling.

Keys to Victory

For the Eagles, the key is undoubtedly going to be getting after Carson Palmer. The Cardinals quarterback has been wildly inconsistent, as has the offensive line in front of him. Meanwhile, Philly’s defensive front is one of the most fearsome units in the league. Thus, to slow down the Arizona offense, generating pressure will be pivotal.

On offense, Carson Wentz has to continue what he’s been doing — largely be protective of the ball and take shots down the field. The jump from Year 1 to Year 2 has been noticeable with the quarterback, and he could showcase that if he’s leading his team to a win.

Then there’s the Cardinals, who contrarily need to see their defense step up. Despite the big names and talent, this unit has been susceptible in numerous areas this season. As such, they need to find ways to stifle a high-powered Eagles attack.

Meanwhile, Palmer needs to throw the deep ball well in this one. The issue for the Eagles defense this season has been their cornerbacks. With the speed that the Cardinals boast at receiver, they need to go after this and take big shots down the field. Big plays could determine their success on Sunday.

Prediction

By my estimation, this game has the potential to turn into a bit of a shootout. The Eagles and Cardinals offenses at their best are potent. However, both defensive units have obvious flaws that can be exploited. With that said, at home, I’m giving Philadelphia the slight edge and the move to 4-1 with a win.

Final Score: Arizona Cardinals: 24, Philadelphia Eagles: 27
