If the New York Jets decide to move on from Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg, the future at quarterback isn’t in the 2018 NFL Draft.
Most fans of the New York Jets are looking at college cities like Los Angeles, CA; Laramie, WY; and Stillwater and Norman, OK. The future of the Jets isn’t in any of those cities. He currently plays in an NFL city, Landover, MD.
Krik Cousins should be on the radar for the New York Jets. It is highly unlikely that the Washington Redskins slap the franchise tag on him again, and owner Daniel Snyder is unlikely to sign Cousins to the lucrative deal that the quarterback wants.
Despite all the rumblings about the 2018 quarterback class, it will be better for the Jets to get an established quarterback who might be a B-level quarterback rather than hope for potential. Additionally, Cousins is perfect for the West Coast offense.

Cousins is an accurate quarterback. In 25 out of has last 35 starts he’s completed at least two-thirds of his passes. He also doesn’t throw many interceptions. In the last three seasons (2015-17) , he’s only had two interceptions in a game six times, and he has a 59-24 (almost 2.5-1) touchdown-to-interception ratio in that timeframe.
Despite not taking chances downfield, Josh McCown has shown us the importance of being accurate in this offense. It has led the Jets to a .600 record through five games, and that’s not something many people expected.
Despite losing his top two targets, DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garcon, his accuracy hasn’t diminished, and he’s on pace for a career high in touchdown passes for a season. He’s also on pace to throw the fewest interceptions in his career in a season when he attempts 100+ passes.

As the Jets continue to win, the draft pick slowly becomes less likely in the range of a quarterback. So, it may behoove them to look toward free agency. Yes, Cousins will be 30 years old when the 2018 season starts. However, for the Jets it’s not about winning multiple Super Bowls, or even just winning one. They have to have a quarterback that can get them there, and Cousins can with the ascending talent the Jets have.
