The Green Bay Packers are finally in a situation that the Chicago Bears and every other NFL team has had to deal with.

For the first time since 2008, the Chicago Bears are favored in a game against the Green Bay Packers. The Bears have been playing better as of late, but the biggest reason they are favored is because Brett Hundley is under center for the Packers, not Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers broke his collarbone in Week 7, and since then, the Packers have not won a game.

Packers fans are clearly upset, and for a good reason. Losing your team’s starting quarterback is never good news, especially when he is a future Hall of Famer. It demoralizes the team and the fan base, and it has a colossal effect on the team’s record.

However, no fan of any of the 31 other teams in the league feels sorry for the Packers or the fans. They have been spoiled for over two decades watching Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers play. They have not had to experience bad quarterback play like the Bears and countless other fanbases have had to deal with. I give the Packers credit for acquiring Favre and drafting Rodgers, but it’s about darn time that the team’s quarterback position is in flux.

The Packers have dominated the Bears in recent years because of the Bears’ bad quarterback play. It’s not a fair fight when the Packers have Favre or Rodgers under center, and across the sideline, Jonathan Quinn, Craig Krenzel, Rex Grossman, Caleb Hanie or even Jay Cutler is starting for the Bears.

This week, the Bears finally have a chance to kick the Packers while they’re down. The Packers have lost three games in a row, and a loss against the Bears would all but eliminate the team from serious playoff potential. On the other hand, beating the Packers would be a tremendous way to begin the second half of the season for the Bears, and even though both teams would be 4-5, the Bears’ arrow would be pointing up while Green Bay’s is pointing down.

So, my advice for the Bears: Don’t apologize for crushing the Brett Hundley-led Packers. Do it for every snap that Henry Burris, Kordell Stewart or Kyle Orton had to take against the Packers. Do it for every time Rodgers broke-out his “discount double-check” celebration move. And do it for the two decades that the Packers have had Hall of Famers playing quarterback.

It’s about time the Packers have to deal with something that every other NFL team has had to do. So Bears, go out and make the Packers’ season even more miserable. I, for one, will be relishing in every moment of it.
