Fantasy Football 2017: Star quarterbacks lead Week 10
By Dan Salem
Its not every week that star quarterbacks face off, but Week 10 is the exception. Saints vs. Bills, or Cowboys vs. Falcons? Your Fantasy Football game of the week.
Each week during the NFL season, certain games stand out. These are not necessarily the games with the most on the line or with the most impact on the standings. Instead, they hold the most star power and fantasy football implications.
These are the games every fan needs to watch, from the die hard to the guy pressured into joining a fantasy league with work associates. This is the fantasy football 2017 game of the week for NFL Week 10.
Two brothers from New York, Dan Salem and Todd Salem, debate Fantasy Football 2017 in today’s NFL Sports Debate.
Fantasy Football 2017 Week 10
The Dallas Cowboys are rounding into shape and have become one of the premiere teams each week, almost regardless of opponent. The pending Ezekiel Elliott suspension, if it ever is conveyed, is like a guillotine hanging over that excitement though. Dallas at Atlanta this week would be the best game, IF we knew for sure Elliott was playing, and IF the Falcons weren’t oddly trash at home this year.
Game of the Week
Todd Salem: Instead, there is a major surprise answer as fantasy game of the week, and it’s New Orleans at Buffalo.
First, the particulars: Drew Brees and Tyrod Taylor are two of the best fantasy quarterbacks going right now. Taylor, especially, has been on fire these past three weeks, averaging more than 21 points per game. We have elite running games, led by Mark Ingram, Alvin Kamara, and LeSean McCoy. Ted Ginn is becoming a great complement to Michael Thomas in New Orleans. And on top of all that, the Saints and Bills are two of the best fantasy defenses this season.
Currently, only 10 team defenses have scored double digit fantasy points at least four times this season. The Saints and Bills are two of them. The Bills are also one of just four of those 10 who have never registered negative fantasy points in a week. If you want to consider New Orleans post-Week-3 a different club, it is in the same boat. These are two of the steadiest units on that side of the ball.
More from NFL Spin Zone
- Dallas Cowboys made the trade everyone else should have made
- Pittsburgh Steelers rookie sleeper everyone should be talking about
- Anthony Richardson putting jaw-dropping talent on display immediately
- Denver Broncos’ stud wide receiver might be out for a while
- Washington Commanders: Three takeaways from win over Ravens
That may stifle fantasy production, but the star power is deep on both sides of the ball. There should be enough output to go around for everyone in the fantasy game of the week. And by the way, New Orleans is 3-1 on the road, and Buffalo is 4-0 at home. In all aspects of this contest, something’s gotta give!
Dan Salem: I’ll be honest, it was a struggle to find another viable game, let alone one that meets the high standards of the Fantasy Football game of the week. Seattle versus Arizona would have potential, if not for the Carson Palmer injury. Houston versus the Los Angeles Rams was a shoo-in candidate, but not with the loss of Deshaun Watson and the lack of Colin Kaepernick running the Texans’ offense. New England versus Denver would be amazing, if this were still week two or three. The Broncos now stink. Every other game features one sorry-sack opponent, except for Dallas versus Atlanta.
New Orleans versus Buffalo is the Fantasy Football GOTW for week 10, so instead I’ll throw praise at the Cowboys and hope at the Falcons. This game could easily eclipse our GOTW, but nothing makes me trust Atlanta right now. The Falcons have lost 4-of-5 games, with their only victory coming because the New York Jets gave them the game in the final minutes. 20 points seems to be the magic number for Matt Ryan and his team. When Atlanta scores more than 20, they win. When the Falcons score less than 20 points, they lose. Good thing Dallas is giving up over 22 points a game!
I expect Atlanta to move the ball well against the Cowboys, making Julio Jones and their running back tandem excellent fantasy football options this week. Dallas is firing on all cylinders itself, so this game can easily be a shootout. Dak Prescott is having a sneaky awesome season and is in full control of his offense. Its hard to know which Cowboys receiver will get the most targets, but the fantasy points are there for the taking. Elliott is going to play once again, so this is a great game.
NFL 2017: Do Fights Tarnish the Game? A love/hate debate
Unless you’re a fan of a specific team, I’d pretty much avoid every game except these two matchups. New Orleans and Buffalo will bring it. Dallas and Atlanta are going to put up a lot of points. No other teams can make such a claim. Too many are missing their quarterbacks. With the Eagles and Chiefs on a bye, these are the games to watch in Week 10.
