Vikings vs. Redskins: Preview, score prediction for Week 10
Minnesota Vikings vs. Washington Redskins
The Washington Redskins host the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday afternoon in a game that could have big implications in the NFC playoff picture later in the season. The Vikings are 6-2 and the current leaders in the NFC North, were off last week, while the 4-4 Redskins pulled off a thrilling — and an improbable road win at Seattle.
Both teams have struggled with health this season. Fortunately for the Vikings, their schedule was light enough to get through October winning their last four games against the Bears, Packers, Ravens and Browns. An outstanding defense will keep Minnesota in every game. Surprisingly, the Vikings are getting adequate quarterback play from journeyman Case Keenum after starter Sam Bradford injured his knee early this season.
Another storyline to watch for Minnesota is the return of former starting quarterback Teddy Bridgewater. Bridgewater was finally cleared this week to return to action after missing the past season-and-a-half. If Keenum struggles, Bridgewater will get an opportunity to reclaim his former job.
While the Vikings have fought injuries, no team in the league has been bitten by the injury bug quite like the Redskins. Washington was missing four starters along the offensive in each of the last two games, in addition to injuries to stalwarts such as Josh Norman, Bashaud Breeland, Jamison Crowder, Jordan Reed, Matt Ioannidis and Jonathan Allen, among others.
The Redskins could be getting several players back this week, as Brandon Scherff and Shawn Lauvao returned to practice on a limited basis, as did backup tackle Ty Nsekhe and center Spencer Long. Left tackle Trent Williams likely remains out another week.
Minnesota’s Keys to Victory
The Vikings need to be able to run the football and keep Keenum in favorable positions on offense. That means Minnesota needs a big game from versatile running back Jerick McKinnon. McKinnon is the type of running back who can give Washington problems. If the Vikings can’t run the ball, the Redskins will have the advantage.

Defensively, Minnesota must get pressure on Kirk Cousins. Last week against Seattle, Cousins was beaten around all game long, however, he managed to make plays when it mattered the most. The Vikings must continue to bring the heat on Cousins in the hopes of forcing turnovers or a short field.
Washington’s Keys to Victory
To expect the Redskins to be able to run the ball is realistic. Most importantly, though, they must stay committed to the run. The threat of the run opens things up for Cousins and the passing game. He’s one of the best play-action passers in the game. Even if the running game isn’t working, Washington must remain committed to it.
Another key for Washington on offense is to feature wide receiver Josh Doctson. He will make things easier for Cousins, Chris Thompson and others on offense.
Defensive coordinator Greg Manusky had his best day as the defensive boss in Washington last week. He kept the pressure on Russell Wilson, which led to three interceptions. He must continue that strategy this week against Keenum.

Prediction
This should be a fun game. These two teams seemingly play every year and the games are always close. That will be the case again on Sunday. Minnesota has an outstanding defense, while the Redskins are pretty good on that side of the ball. Offensively, the Redskins have the advantage, especially if some injured starters return.

Much like previous Washington games, this one goes down to the wire with Cousins making enough plays with his arms and legs to keep a game-winning drive alive. New kicker Nick Rose gets his shot at a game-winner and comes through. The Redskins get a huge home win to improve to 5-4 on the season.
Final Score: Minnesota Vikings: 17, Washington Redskins: 20
