The Miami Dolphins are in the middle of a tough string of losses. However, head coach Adam Gase is not on the hot seat.

Many Miami Dolphins fans are calling for the head of Adam Gase. This is because many fans, especially loud ones on social media, are emotional and illogical — especially when it comes to being in the thralls of a bad losing streak.

The word “fan” alone is a shortened version of the word “fanatic” which infers that they are someone inherently unrealistic. People get caught up in the moment and react on their feelings, because that’s what fandom breeds. And unfortunately, social media has given too many people a voice that don’t need one.

For the more reasonable fans, have no fear. The head coach isn’t on the verge of being fired, regardless of what people are claiming on your Facebook page or Twitter feed. Gase took over a failing franchise that hasn’t been relevant since Ricky Williams decided to go smoke pot in a tent — with a slight exception when they deployed the wildcat offense and, in a rare occurrence, out-smarted Bill Belichick and won the AFC East.

The Dolphins have been one of the doormats of the league and Gase took over a team that needed a culture change and rebuild. In his first season, he led his team on an unprecedented winning streak and made the playoffs.

Now in his second season, his starting quarterback tore his ACL just weeks before the season started and the team had to bring a quarterback out of retirement to lead the team. An unsuccessful quarterback that has never really led any team to anything. And for that he should be fired? That’s pure foolishness.

Then you have the hypocrites’ opinion. You know the types. The people that want to win but are mad the team made an effort and gave Jay Cutler $10 million. Or the people that are mad Jay Ajayi was traded away, but claim the coach needs to be a leader with control of the locker room. You can’t have it both ways, even if you want it both ways.

I understand why fans get so emotional and feel this way and it’s okay. You’re a fan, not an NFL general manager, it’s what you’re supposed to do. With that said, there’s a reason why professional general managers don’t make decisions based off what fans rant about the internet — at least the good ones don’t.
