3. Morris Claiborne, CB

Normally a player with the talent of Claiborne would be number one on this list. There’s one issue with him. The most important ability in pro sports is availability, and as the season goes on, we will wonder when Claiborne will get hurt and miss time.

Claiborne is a shutdown corner is every sense of the word. He can take the No. 1 receiver on any opponent out of the game. According to Pro Football Focus Elite, Claiborne has the 12th lowest passer rating against him in the NFL at 66.8, and allows a catch rate of 56.1 percent (23 catches on 41 targets). Additionally, PFF Elite shows his tackling skills, his tackling efficiency rating is 18, and that’s tackles per miss. That ties him for 18th in the NFL.

Claiborne will be 28 going into the 2018 season. So, it’d definitely worth signing him. They need to work out a long-term incentive laden deal that includes snaps played. Also, the deal should include a way out for the Jets after the second or third year for the team to be able to cut him at minimal cap risk later in the deal. He’s a must re-sign for the team.
