Chicago Bears: Ryan Pace keeps avoiding the media
By David Mamola
It’s time for Ryan Pace to face the music and answer some questions about why the Chicago Bears continue to struggle.
Everyone wants to blame John Fox for the miserable season the Chicago Bears have had, but general manager Ryan Pace is also to blame for putting together a roster that’s lacking talent. After every loss (and during the week), Fox has to meet the media and address the team’s lackluster performance.
Now, while he doesn’t say much, at least he’s out there “answering” questions that the media and fans have for him.
The same cannot be said for general manager Ryan Pace. He spoke to the media in early September, yet since then, he’s been on a hiatus. Sure, he has his weekly pregame radio spot on WBBM, but that is a Chicago Bears-owned program and the questions he answers are not the “hard-hitting” ones that fans want to hear him talk about. It’s very easy to tell that the questions asked to Pace during the few minute interview are talked about before he goes on the air.

Pace’s lack of media availability has actually created more turmoil around the team. We all know that Fox is not going to be around next season, but what about the rest of this season? Instead of Pace coming out and telling everyone one way or the other, he continues to sit in the comfort of his office with his mouth shut.
So because of this, Fox has to answer constant questions about his job security, and the uncertainty surrounding who might be coaching the team the rest of the season continues to be a major focal point in newspapers and talk radio. Pace could quiet this talk for the time being if he simply talked, but he hasn’t.
Fans want answers, and they want to hear from the general manager who has assembled one of the worst rosters in the league. Not that words translate into wins (or more talent), but I think it’s common courtesy for Pace to address the fans directly, and not simply on his “controlled” radio spot. The Bears have been a joke during Pace’s tenure, and it’s time he takes some responsibly for it. Addressing the media and answering some actual questions would be a good place to start.
