The Jacksonville Jaguars are going to make the tough decision of which unrestricted free agents to re-sign.

Dave Caldwell and the Jacksonville Jaguars will be faced with a tough offseason. They will have to decide whether a player is essential to the team or is expendable. How much will team loyalty figure into each decision?

Currently, Caldwell has been very quiet throughout the Jaguars’ amazing season. He has primarily put the team together through the draft and free agency. The roster talent has definitely been upgraded.

Many people wanted him out as general manager when Shad Khan decided to shake up the Jaguars. Doug Marrone became the new head coach. Tom Coughlin returned to Jacksonville in a front office position.

Gene Frenette of Jacksonville.com wrote concerning Caldwell:

"In hindsight, just as the Jaguars’ fan base feels differently about the direction of this team, it’s only fair to extend the same positivity toward Caldwell. The moves once thought to be suspect are now working."

Currently, Caldwell is enjoying the success of this season. Since there were low expectations following last seasons 3-13 record, will he be able to keep the momentum going forward? Most of all, will he be able to keep the teams’ core players in Jacksonville?

Telvin Smith signed his contract extension because Caldwell wanted to reward him for his efforts. Due to the nature of the business, contract negotiations bring out the worst in the parties involved. Caldwell wanted no part of such a scene to play out.

There are several players who become unrestricted free agents after the season. Consequently, there will be tough decisions to be made. Which players will Caldwell look to re-sign for 2018?

Paul Posluszny is a fan favorite because he plays his heart out each game. Posluszny will turn 34 years old next October and struggles in pass coverage. Jacksonville drafted Blair Brown as his possible replacement. Will Caldwell show him loyalty by offering a veterans minimum amount or let him walk?

Marqise Lee becomes a free agent after the season. Lee has struggled with dropping passes earlier this season. Have Keelan Cole and Dede Westbrook proved to Caldwell that Lee is expendable? Expect the team to part ways with Lee.

Aaron Colvin is the slot cornerback that tackles well especially in run support. Although Jacksonville drafted Jalen Myrick in 2017, Colvin solidifies the secondary. Jalen Ramsey voiced his opinion that Colvin should get an extension.

Allen Robinson has been on the injured reserve list since Week 2. The biggest question will be whether his injury has affected his play. Unfortunately, he might not return. Its highly doubtful that Caldwell would re-sign Lee and Robinson to bigger contracts.
