2. Bring back linebacker Demario Davis

The Arkansas State product just turned 29 and is coming off an excellent campaign for Gang Green. In his second tour of duty with the Jets, Davis led the team by a wide margin in tackles (97) and added a team-high five sacks as well last year. He chipped in with three passes defensed and a 12-yard fumble recovery to boot. His tackle and sack totals were both career-highs.

Those are some impressive statistics but what was most important was how well the six-year veteran replaced David Harris as the “quarterback” of New York’s defensive unit. Like Harris, Davis called the defensive signals and made sure his teammates were aligned properly. He proved to be a solid leader on the gridiron. He is an impending free agent and the Jets would be very wise to ink him to a new pact.

The 6-2, 235-pounder is still in his prime and he should get his fair share of suitors during the off-season. Gang Green has a foundation of talented defensive players with upside in Leonard Williams, Jamal Adams and Marcus Maye. Davis needs to remain a part of that defensive corps. The Jets have to make sure that their defensive quarterback returns for the 2018 campaign. It would show stability for a unit that should only get better moving forward.
