1. The end of the Brady/Belichick Era

With Matt Patricia and Josh McDaniels interviewing for head coaching jobs and the previously mentioned rift between the owner, head coach, and best player, the signs are pointing toward an end. Every good thing must come to an end, and most of the time people don’t get to go out on their own terms.

From a personal perspective, it would be bad for the dynasty to end on a losing note. From Belichick’s perspective, he actually didn’t want to leave on this note. He wanted to leave tied with Curly Lambeau and George Halas for most championships won by a head coach in NFL history. Both won six NFL Championships.

He also wanted to leave with one of his coordinators as head coach with a new quarterback to mold into a winner. Instead, after the loss to Tennessee, Matt Patricia will be announced as the head coach of the New York Giants, and Josh McDaniels will also be a head coach elsewhere. The cupboard will be left bare, and Belichick will announce his retirement.
