3. Kevin Hogan

After an impressive career at Stanford, the Kansas City Chiefs snagged Kevin Hogan in the fifth round (162nd overall) of the 2016 NFL Draft. With less than ideal arm strength, Hogan was never going to be a big-time NFL quarterback prospect. That being said, he is a smart player, who shows solid ball placement and good mobility. The positives of Hogan’s game always seemed to make him a strong fit for Andy Reid‘s offensive system.

Unfortunately, Hogan did not impress enough to stick with the Chiefs as they released him during the preseason. But he did catch on with the quarterback needy Cleveland Browns and has actually seen the field in four games in each of the last two seasons.

In his limited action as a rookie, Hogan completed 53.6 percent of his passes for 104 yards. He did not throw for a touchdown and had two interceptions. While it was still limited, Hogan saw more playing time for the Browns as a second-year player, completing 61.3 percent of his passes for 517 yards and four touchdowns. He also threw five interceptions.

According to Spotrac, Hogan is an exclusive rights free agent this offseason. The Browns could easily get Hogan back, but with DeShone Kizer already on the roster, and both veteran and rookie additions at the position likely, the Browns are unlikely to bring Hogan back into the fold.

To be honest, Hogan has not been great in the limited time we have seen him in the NFL. However, he is still a strong fit for Reid’s offense and at least has some NFL experience. Hogan is not the perfect backup quarterback option for the Kansas City Chiefs, but he is an interesting low-cost choice who would bring some stability.
