New York Giants: Top 3 NFL Draft picks to avoid in 2018
2. Orlando Brown
The Giants may surprise everyone and not take a quarterback in the first round. They may opt to start building the team and allow Eli Manning to ride out into the sunset. If they do that they may try and secure a left tackle of the future, because Ereck Flowers isn’t working out. If they want to get a left tackle, Brown isn’t their answer.
He’s a solid run blocker with good NFL strength. However, when it comes to pass protection, he’s got one major flaw. He’s not athletic enough to handle an opponent’s top pass rusher. That could lend him to move to right tackle in the NFL.
Unlike Mike McGlinchey, who is the top offensive tackle in the draft, Brown didn’t show an ability to overpower college defensive linemen regularly. He should’ve been able to handle a lot of the linemen more frequently, but he didn’t.
They already failed with one left tackle prospect. They can’t withstand another bust at left tackle, because that position is just as important as the quarterback. If they go with a left tackle, their best options are Mike McGlinchey and Texas left tackle Connor Williams. Since Brown is better off as a right tackle, it may be best to avoid him in the first round.
