The Chicago Bears need to overhaul their wide receiver corps. Recent reports have them among the favorites to sign Marqise Lee in free agency.

For many, the Chicago Bears‘ top priority is to improve the offense, in particular, the wide receiver corps. We all know that the receivers were among the worst in the league. They contributed greatly to the Bears ranking last in passing yards and 31st in passing touchdowns.

There is speculation the Bears may get into the Jarvis Landry sweepstakes. Additionally, if Sammy Watkins is available, the Bears could take a flyer on him as well. Those guys could cost a pretty penny. If the Bears decide to go a little less expensive, they may go after Marqise Lee.

A report by Adam Thompson of Sportsline.com has the Bears in the mix for Marqise Lee. Here is what he wrote:

More from NFL Spin Zone

"Lee has 119 receptions over the last two years with the Jaguars (56 for 702 yards in 2017), but he’ll likely be the odd man out in Jacksonville. The team will have to spend a pretty penny to keep (Allen)Robinson, and already has Allen Hurns and a strong group of young reserves locked up.Among wideouts that won’t command $10 million-plus, Lee is at the top of the market. Many teams will inquire."

Lee was the Jacksonville Jaguars’ 2014 second-round pick. In his first two seasons, he didn’t exactly impress. He recorded 52 receptions for 613 yards and 2 touchdowns. He changed that in the last two seasons, however. Since 2016, he has 119 receptions for 1,553 yards and 6 touchdowns.

Lee is good at the deep pass. Additionally, he runs great routes. He’ll go a far way to help in quarterback Mitch Trubisky‘s development.

Lee may be the odd man out in Jacksonville. The Jaguars need to decide on either Robinson or Lee. The feeling is they’ll keep Robinson, not both. That leaves an opening for the Bears should they want.

Lee could be a good addition. He is just 26 and hitting his prime. His last two seasons could be a matter of his maturity and a better understanding of what it takes to succeed in the NFL.
