Special teams is the often forgotten phase of football’s three-phase game. Unless something goes horribly wrong, most people don’t even talk about it. In addition to that, you don’t often see punters go this early in the draft. Bryan Anger was the only punter in the last ten years to be selected in the first three rounds, but Dickson is well worth a third round pick.

In real estate, there’s one important thing, location, location, location. Well, in football, one thing will determine a fate of a team in most games, and that’s field position, and there’s one player who truly has the fate of field position in his hands, or more appropriately, on his foot, the punter.

Having a good punter can sway the field position game in your favor, and for the Jets, that will be absolutely necessary, because they may not have the firepower to play in many shootouts.

His gross and net punt averages were both top-three in the country, and the difference between them of 3.2 yards would’ve been fifth-lowest in the NFL. He forced 33 fair catches and 50 percent of his punts ended up inside the 20-yard line. This is a crucial draft pick for the Jets, and they can’t miss on him.
