So far in this mock draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars found their franchise quarterback, an offensive lineman who fits their playing style extremely well and a playmaking tight end. The Jags have an elite level defense with a huge majority of their defensive players back in the fold for 2018 so it makes sense that they would load up on offense early in the draft. That trend continues in the fourth round with the selection of wide receiver Dante Pettis.

More from NFL Spin Zone

Pettis is an explosive athlete who shows the ability to make plays at all levels. His impressive route running ability immediately stands out on tape as he consistently creates separation against man and finds open space against zone.

The University of Washington product is also an extremely elusive player with the ball in his hands, consistently creating extra yardage on his own after the catch. His elusiveness also shows up on kick and punt return where Pettis proved to be a big-time weapon.

There is a lot to like about Pettis’ game as a whole. However, his production in college was far too inconsistent. Playing alongside 2017 ninth overall pick John Ross, Pettis piled up 53 receptions for 822 yards and 15 touchdowns in 2016. However, when he became more of a focal point of the Huskies’ offense in 2017, Pettis had a less inspiring 63 receptions for 761 yards and seven touchdowns.

Simply put, Pettis appears to be a secondary receiver at the next level, which is why he could possibly be available this late in the draft. That being said, with an explosive skill set, great route running skills and the ability to play both on the outside and out of the slot, there is a lot to like about Pettis as a secondary option in the NFL.

Wide receiver is not a huge area of need for the Jags, but it is an area where they could certainly use some more talent. Plus, Pettis would be a fantastic value late in the fourth round. This was a relatively easy selection.
