2. Danny Amendola

Trust in his receivers has always been an extremely important part of Tom Brady’s game. He wants guys out there who know where to be and consistently make catches when he throws them the ball. How many times have we seen Brady blow up on a receiver for being in the wrong spot and then he disappears from the offense? It happens often.

Tom Brady expects his teammates to do their job correctly and he doesn’t have time for those who makes mistakes. That is why bringing Danny Amendola back is extremely important for the New England Patriots.

Amendola has spent the last five seasons in New England and has become an extremely reliable target for Brady in the passing game. A little slot receiver with impressive quickness, Amendola always seems to be in the right spot on the field. He has a knack for finding open space in the defense, consistently catches the ball and can make plays after the catch. Amendola is the exact kind of reliable target that Brady needs at his disposal at this point in his career.

Their on-field rapport is obvious, but it became even more apparent when we saw a bit of Brady’s life behind the scenes. In an episode of his Facebook series Tom vs. Time, Brady, Amendola and fellow slot receiver extraordinaire Julian Edelman vacationed together.

They certainly seemed to have a lot of fun, but it was also a work trip, as the three players worked on their timing and expansive route tree. That behind the scenes episode was an inside look at Brady’s close relationship with Amendola and Edelman. They are clearly two guys who he trusts on the football field. The New England Patriots must have as many guys who Brady trusts around as possible.

Unfortunately, Edelman went down with a torn ACL last preseason, an injury that ended his season. Losing Edelman was a huge blow to the Pats, but having Amendola around as a ready-made replacement saved them. Brady probably would have made it work regardless, but Amendola stepped up and had a lot of success as the primary slot receiver, which is a huge role in the Pats offense.

Edelman should be ready to go for the 2018 season, but who knows how he will come back after suffering such a major knee injury. The Patriots simply must get Amendola back in the fold this offseason. He is an extremely important depth player in their offensive attack.
