The Chicago Bears had the single-worst group of wide receivers in the NFL last season. They relied heavily on guys like Kendall Wright, Dontrelle Inman and Josh Bellamy last season, all three of who are about to hit free agency. As things stand now, the Bears only have first-round bust Kevin White, free agent disappointment Markus Wheaton and undrafted second-year player Tanner Gentry on the roster at the wide receiver position.

At worst, they will likely bring restricted free agent Cameron Meredith back in the fold. However, the Bears clearly need to make multiple additions at the wide receiver position. I fully expect the Bears to attack this obvious position of need through both free agency and the draft. In this situation, they find a nice mid-round steal in Colorado State’s Michael Gallup.

Gallup is a big and fast receiver who shows an extremely well-rounded skill set. He shows legitimate deep speed, consistently creating separation on the deep ball and impressive overall ball skills. Gallup also runs sharp underneath routes and has nice run after catch ability. His impressive size, athleticism and ball skills also makes Gallup a fantastic red zone threat with a ton of natural upside.

Gallup is an absolute steal in this range, showing an expansive skill set that gives him a ton of natural long-term upside. He is a strong number two wide receiver option who could be a reliable target for Mitch Trubisky for many years. Adding Gallup alone would not be enough to solve the Bears’ issues at wide receiver, but it would be a major step in the right direction.
