Kansas City Chiefs: Post-Combine 7-round 2018 mock draft
No matter what happens throughout the rest of the offseason, the Kansas City Chiefs are going to look much different at cornerback than last season. They have already traded away Marcus Peters, traded for Kendall Fuller and signed David Amerson at the position.

As things stand now, the Chiefs have Fuller, Amerson and Steven Nelson as the primary trio at cornerback. Not a bad group, but there is certainly room for improvement. At the moment, I would call cornerback a minor position of need for Kansas City and adding a potential long-term piece at the position in the draft would make sense. Enter Anthony Averett.
Averett is a former track star who shows a fantastic skill set at the cornerback position. He is an impressive athlete who can battle for the ball in the air and has tremendous closing speed. Averett shows great reactions in coverage and fantastic field awareness. He is also an extremely competitive player who will not back down from a challenge on the outside.
Averett has good height (6-foot-0), but he lacks ideal length and is awfully thin. His ball skills could also use some work at the next level.
The Alabama product is not a perfect prospect, but he has a fantastic skill set and shows natural ability in coverage. I could see the Chiefs drafting Averett as a nice depth option who could battle with Amerson and Nelson for playing time. At worst, he could be a real weapon on special teams out of the gate. Plus, his long-term upside would be worth getting exciting about.
