New York Jets: 2018 NFL Free Agency preview, predictions
Team Needs
1. Offensive Line
2. Edge Rusher
3. Cornerback
4. Quarterback
5. No. 1 wide receiver
6. Defensive Line
The Jets can fix many of these needs in 2018 NFL Free Agency. There’s talent to be had, but it will just take some convincing to get them to come and play at MetLife Stadium.
Some say that the quarterback position should be number one on the list, and it would be if they were a quarterback away from winning. They’re not. The Jets couldn’t protect the quarterback or attack the opposing quarterback in 2017, and they need to fix both of those before even considering a quarterback.
Teams in recent vintage have shown that the way to win a Super Bowl by building the team first (by a combination of the draft and free agency) and getting the franchise quarterback later. The Patriots, Steelers, Seahawks, and Eagles all had teams in place before adding their franchise quarterback. The Eagles and Patriots both won Super Bowls with a quarterback who was initially the team’s backup to start the season.
The Jets will need to address some of those glaring needs before the draft. This year’s free agency period has talent to help add to this team to make them a Super Bowl caliber team.
