Rounds 6 and 7

Round 6 (193): Johnathan Abram, S, Mississippi State: The Dallas Cowboys could try to see if Johnathan Abram can make his mark on the roster at safety. Currently, the depth chart has some change at the position with Byron Jones switching to cornerback, leaving room for competition for a roster spot. Abram is described as a “physical defender” by WalterFootball.com, so Abram of Mississippi State could be the type of defender the Cowboys could use in the tough NFC East.

Round 6 (208): Ian Thomas, TE, Indiana: Having veteran Jason Witten as the starter, the rest of the tight end spots on the roster need to be seen where they stand, and Ian Thomas of Indiana would if nothing else force the rest of the tight ends on the roster to amp up their play in 2018. The issue with all the tight ends, though, is getting in-game chances at making plays with Witten being the No. 1 target at the position. A little position battle with a potential steal like Thomas in Round 6 would make for a very interesting training camp.

Round 7 (237): Nick Bawden, FB, San Diego State: The Cowboys are in need of a fullback on their roster with Keith Smith leaving in free agency to join the Oakland Raiders this offseason. The Cowboys need a fullback who can be a lead blocker for Ezekiel Elliott and one who can pick up blitzes for Dak Prescott, even after trading for Jamize Olawale. So Bawden is a player who could take care of that issue for the Cowboys.
