Detroit Lions: Ranking the team’s top 2018 offseason additions
1. LeGarrette Blount, RB (from Philadelphia Eagles)
The inefficiency of the Detroit Lions’ ground game have been well-documented over the last few seasons. Since 2014, no team in the league has gained fewer yards on the ground then the Men from the Motor City. Including playoff losses in 2014 and 2016, the Lions have played a total of 66 contests the past four years and been limited to fewer than 100 yards on the ground in 50 of those outings.
Enter veteran running back LeGarrette Blount, who has a chance to pull off something never done before. In each of the past two seasons, he’s picked up a Super Bowl championship ring – first with the New England Patriots and then with the Philadelphia Eagles. Now he hopes to add another championship with a third different franchise, something unprecedented in the Super Bowl Era.

In eight NFL seasons with four different teams, the former undrafted free agent has totaled 1,341 carries for 5,888 yards and 51 touchdowns. He spent four of those campaigns with the New England Patriots, hence the connection with Bob Quinn and Matt Patricia. Blount could finally add some oomph to a Detroit ground attack that averaged an NFL-low 76.3 yards per game this past season. Teaming with the likes of Ameer Abdullah, sure-handed Theo Riddick and Zach Zenner, Detroit suddenly has a lot of different options out of the backfield.
