Round 1: Lamar Jackson, QB, Louisville

The Jaguars take Lamar Jackson in the first round. Jackson might fall to the 29th spot but it’s possible that Jacksonville moves up to select him. Jackson’s selection will mean that the Jaguars are moving away from the current quarterback prototype.

Jackson stands 6-3, weighing 211 pounds. Since he will not be pressed into playing early, he will have time to mature and add weight. Bortles will be pushed by Jackson’s athleticism. At Louisville, Jackson threw for 9,043 yards with 69 touchdowns. He ran for 4,132 yards with 50 rushing touchdowns. Jackson won the 2016 Heisman Trophy.

ProFootballTalk reports that Robert Griffin III worked out for the Jaguars. Griffin was not offered a contract but perhaps it foreshadowed this first round selection.

Walterfootball.com gives a description about Jackson’s abilities:

"Jackson has an amazing skill set with a powerful arm that allows him to make throws off platform that many NFL quarterbacks couldn’t even dream of making. He is tough in the pocket, … has amazing athleticism and speed as a runner. Jackson looks like a taller and right-handed version of Michael Vick…"

Athleticism is the main difference when comparing him to the other marquee quarterback prospects. This pick will eventually add a new dimension to Jacksonville’s offense. Let’s see who is taken next.
