Round 7: J.T. Barrett, QB/FB, Ohio State

Jacksonville selects J.T. Barrett and moves him to fullback. Barrett should replace Tommy Bohanon at that position. At Ohio State, he rushed for 3,263 yards with 43 touchdowns. Remember, he was a quarterback in college. Barrett stands 6-1, weighing 220 pounds. He is better suited as a running back or receiver. Barrett would make an excellent fullback.

Other college quarterbacks have had quality NFL careers playing a different position. Julian Edelman, the New England receiver, played quarterback at Kent State. Former Jaguars running back Denard Robinson played quarterback at Michigan.

Barrett wants the opportunity to play quarterback in the NFL. Probably would become a running back if it meant making an NFL roster. Nfl.com quotes an AFC regional scout in its “Sources tell us” section:

"“Great leader and a high character guy. I want him to succeed but I just don’t see enough talent to be an NFL quarterback.” AFC regional scout"

Here is another opinion via landof10.com:

"“He’s going to be hard to cut,” said Dan Shonka, national scout and general manager for Ourlads Scouting Services, who helped select players for the annual East-West Shrine Game. … He really looked good in practice, a lot better in practice throwing the ball than he did obviously in the game. Barrett showed really good arm strength, … he got in the game and he did what he did at Ohio State sometimes and he was inconsistent.”"

Barrett could be a NFL quarterback but he might have a better career playing fullback.
