1. Minkah Fitzpatrick, DB, Alabama

While James offers versatility, Fitzpatrick does, too. While Fitzpatrick can do some of the things James does, he also offers the ability to line up on the outside at cornerback or in the slot. He’s also played for the best defensive program in the country the last three years and we know Washington values Alabama defenders. Fitzpatrick is definitely one of the top 10 players in this class, however, much like others, the quarterback pool will push others down.

Enter Fitzpatrick.

While the quarterbacks will push good players down, it’s still unlikely Fitzpatrick falls all the way to Washington at No. 13. If he does, though, expect the Redskins to quickly turn in their draft card and make Fitzpatrick the pick. By choosing Fitzpatrick, the Redskins can still add a defensive lineman or running back in the second round. In Fitzpatrick, Washington would get a versatile defender to build its defense around over the next decade. With a player like Fitzpatrick, you pick him and worry about where he plays later. He’s a special talent.

During his career at Alabama, Fitzpatrick played safety, corner and nickel. He excelled everywhere he played. With the Redskins, there’s a vacancy at the nickel position with the trade of Fuller. The Redskins clearly like Fitzpatrick and for good reason. If he’s there at 13, he’s likely the pick.
