Kansas City Chiefs: 7-Round 2018 mock draft in mid-April
We know that the Kansas City Chiefs have obvious needs on the defensive side of the ball. They could legitimately use help at every single position in their 3-4 defense. However, reaching for need is never a good idea. Instead of reaching for a defensive prospect with their late second round selection, the Chiefs take a real playmaker at the tight end position in this mock draft.

Mike Gesicki is a 6-6, 247-pound tight end who has an unlimited ceiling at the next level. He shows ridiculous natural athleticism and pass catching ability in the middle of the field. Gesicki is a natural route runner who finds open space and works up the field with ease. He creates separation with impressive natural speed and quickness and can go up and get the ball extremely well.
Gesicki shows ridiculous natural pass catching ability on the field, but his numbers at the combine were also incredibly impressive. In particular, Gesicki’s 4.54-second 40-yard dash and 41.5-inch vertical leap showed off his big-time speed and athleticism for a big tight end.
Simply put, guys the size of Gesicki do not typically move this well. He is not much of an inline blocker, but Gesicki has unlimited upside as a receiver at the next level as a true field stretcher and incredible red zone weapon.
Adding Gesicki to the Chiefs’ already impressive mix of weapons would be incredible for the development of Mahomes. Tight end is not a huge need, but it is a position where they could certainly use some depth. With their first pick in this mock draft, the Kansas City Chiefs take the best available talent who would also drastically help their franchise quarterback.
