Kansas City Chiefs: 7-Round 2018 mock draft in mid-April
Siran Neal is an aggressive and athletic defensive back prospect who has some intriguing upside at the next level. Neal lacks natural coverage ability, but his size and physicality allowed him to have some success in press coverage on the outside. Neal excelled as an in-the-box safety, consistently making plays as a rangy run defender.
Neal is a raw prospect who must work on his coverage ability and ball skills in order to make a defensive impact at the next level. That being said, his obvious athleticism and aggressive nature will undoubtedly play on special teams.
With their next selection of this mock draft, the Kansas City Chiefs take Neal’s college teammate at Jacksonville State, running back Roc Thomas. Thomas was a highly ranked high school prospect who began his career at Auburn. He is a quick and shifty player who has surprising power.
Thomas is an incredibly difficult player to bring down in open space, and his versatility in the backfield is also impressive. Thomas is an obvious weapon in the run game and can catch the ball well out of the backfield. Running back is not a major need for the Chiefs, but snagging the talented Thomas in the seventh round would make a ton of sense.
Defensive line is the one area of need for the Kansas City Chiefs that I do not think we adequately addressed in this mock draft. Reaching for positional need is never ideal and the correct opportunity to address their defensive line situation never presented itself in this mock draft.

However, with their eighth and final selection, the Chiefs find an interesting defensive line prospect to add to the mix. John Atkins is a big and powerful defensive lineman who can dominate against the run. He does not offer anything as a pass rusher, but Atkins could provide some serious depth across the Chiefs’ three-man front.
