After finishing first in the league in rushing yards per game two consecutive years (2015-16), the Buffalo Bills slipped slightly to sixth in the NFL in this same category. With star running back LeSean McCoy getting the football early and often and quarterback Tyrod Taylor doing his thing with his legs, the club excelled in this area.

Of course, now Taylor is a member of the Cleveland Browns. The Bills also traded highly-regarded left tackle Cordy Glenn to the Cincinnati Bengals, one of numerous changes in the trenches. The team’s new offensive coordinator is Brian Daboll, who takes over for Rick Dennison after just one year on the job. So can we expect Buffalo’s ground attack to be the focal point of this offense once again? There’s no reason to think otherwise.

Hence the addition of veteran running back Chris Ivory make a lot of sense. The well-traveled performer will be making his fourth NFL stop, having suited up for the New Orleans Saints, New York Jets and the Jacksonville Jaguars. In eight campaigns, he has rolled up 1,112 carries for 4,852 yards and 28 scores for those three clubs and was a 1,000-plus runner and Pro Bowler for the Jets in 2015.

Over the past two seasons, he ran for just 821 yards and four scores in two seasons with Jacksonville. And he became very expendable when the club made Leonard Fournette the fourth overall pick in the 2017 draft. With McCoy entering his 10th NFL season, having another set of legs still capable of a respectable work load makes Ivory a quality addition.
