Marquis Haynes, Mississippi: 6-3, 235 pounds

If the Bears intend to go with Lynch as the starter, Marquis Haynes is a good choice to add depth. They could pick him up in the fourth or fifth round and have him play in a rotation. Later he may turn out to be a starter. Haynes is Ole Miss’ all-time sack leader (32). He also recorded 172 tackles, 47.5 of them for loss. He lived in the opponent’s backfield and forced 12 fumbles.

Fangio loves to move players around and he can do that with Haynes. In addition to outside linebacker, he actually played more time as a defensive end.

Haynes has an incredible burst off the snap. Also, he uses his speed and bend to get past blockers. However, he doesn’t have the strength to shed blockers. If one latches onto him, Haynes cannot get away. His play against the run is questionable. He has a slender body and thin legs. Does this sound familiar?

Early on, he’ll be used as a designated pass rusher in sub packages. That’s the best way to take advantage of his athleticism and speed. Another positive for Haynes is his character. Both coaches and teammates think highly of the young man and he could be a good influence in a locker room.
