New York Jets: 7-Round 2018 mock draft one week away
Baker Mayfield has been linked to the Jets for a long time. When you look at both traditional stats and advanced metrics, you can see why.
First of all, his 68.5 percent completion percentage is good for 11th all-time. His efficiency rating of 175.37 is second all-time to a guy who’s played well in the NFL — when healthy — Sam Bradford. Third, and final, his 4.4-1 touchdown to interception ratio is astounding.
When it comes to advanced metrics he’s amazing too. He’s first is passer rating under pressure (105.3) and on balls that travel 20 or more yards (134.8) in the air (according to Pro Football Focus Elite), and his adjusted completion percentage (82.7 percent) also tops the nation.
Some would look at Oklahoma’s system and say it’s not conducive to producing NFL quarterbacks. While there’s some truth to the fact that there were a lot of open looks by design, there were some tight window throws he had to make as the field got smaller. His game isn’t fully refined, yet, but he’s capable of being an NFL quarterback. In fact, he should start Week 1.
Mayfield has the attitude that fits New York and the talent that fits the West Coast Offense. He’s perfect for the Jets.
