30. . QB. Oklahoma. Baker Mayfield. 3. player

Quarterbacks are quickly flying off the board in this 2018 NFL mock draft. After seeing Darnold and Allen go first and second, the New York Jets will now sit back and take their favorite quarterback remaining. Clearly, this decision comes down to Baker Mayfield versus Josh Rosen. I could see this going either way, but I’m putting my money on Mayfield ending up in New York.

The reigning Heisman Trophy winner has taken a unique route to stardom, but he is undoubtedly a top-tier quarterback prospect in this draft class.

At 6-foot-1, 215 pounds, some will undoubtedly question Mayfield’s size. He certainly does not look like an ideal franchise quarterback in shorts. However, Drew Brees and Russell Wilson have shown us that shorter quarterbacks can compete at an extremely high level in today’s NFL.

His lack of size is less than ideal, but Mayfield’s positives far outweigh the negatives in his game. He has an underrated arm that allows him to zip passes into tight windows. His accuracy is impressive to all levels and he shows the ability to put touch on the ball when necessary as well. The former Sooner is also a mobile signal caller who shows fantastic playmaking ability with his legs. His ability to throw on the run is also extremely impressive.

Perhaps most importantly, Mayfield is a tough competitor who is constantly respected by his teammates. He is a natural born leader who could come in and be the true centerpiece of the Jets’ rebuild. The Jets traded up for a quarterback, that much we know. Choosing between Rosen and Mayfield would not be easy, but selecting Mayfield could be a move that quickly changes the long and short-term fortunes of the franchise.
